About Play Therapy

Play Therapy can provide an opportunity to develop the emotional brain by creating a ‘therapeutic space’ which is safe, welcoming, accepting and supportive. By developing a therapeutic relationship with the child the therapist can create the conditions which can enable and encourage growth and change. Play Therapy sessions are on a one-to-one basis and are held once a week on a designated, regular day of the week and each session will last around 45-60 minutes. A course of therapy is usually a minimum of 8 sessions and is available to Individuals and Schools.

The sessions are child-led and confidential, the child has freedom to access various play opportunities through the use of various mediums from the ‘Play Therapy Toolkit’ including:

• Sandtray and miniatures
• Art materials including paint
• Clay
• Musical instruments
• Puppets
• Games
• Heuristic materials e.g. wood, shells, stones
• Soft toys and dolls
• Dressing up clothes
• Stories
